My name
is Gloria Balcom and I am the artist behind the
Newborn Wonders Nursery. I’ve always been
involved in some type of craft or art starting
way back in grade school. I used to make my own
doll clothes and then through high school moved
up to making my own clothes. I have always loved
babies, I guess that’s why I had both of my
daughters before I was 23, I couldn’t wait to
have my own. Now they are both grown and
supplying me with grandchildren and hard for me
to believe… great grandchildren.
I had
watched my youngest daughter for several years
as she created the most beautiful reborn
babies. She always got so much joy out of the
art; I admired her for all the time and detail
that she would put into her creations. As a
Mother’s day gift she gave me my first two
reborn babies, then another one for my Birthday
and another one for Christmas. I now own four of
her reborn babies, but still had never thought
that it was something that I would be able to
do… For years she tried to convince me to give
it a try. In June of 2007, I went with her
to the annual IDEX Reborn convention in Las
Vegas. I enjoyed myself so much and met so many
wonderful people that shared the love of the
art, when we got home my daughter tried one more
time to get me to try reborning. |

Finally
this time I agreed and with that first baby, I
found the joy and wonder that you experience as
you watch the doll come to life. When
they start to develop their own personalities
and really speak to your heart,
it was then that I understood why so many people
loved this art. So
now I was hooked! I have now created 10
babies and each one has given me the opportunity
to learn new techniques. I have to give credit to
my teacher, my daughter Shelli Sebring, the
artist behind Almost Babies Nursery. She has
always been my teacher, mentor, biggest
supporter and best friend. Thank you Shelli! |
